Actor Sir Christopher Lee has been ordered to pay hundreds of thousands of pounds to an illustrator in a dispute over royalties: The Lord of the Rings star, 87, and his associates must pay £640,000 to artist Gerardo Moreno for work he did on a DVD cover, a Spanish court ruled. Mr Moreno claims he was not properly paid for the art work on the DVD of Jinnah, a 1998 movie staring Lee about the life of the founding father of Pakistan, Muhammed Ali Jinnah.Mr .Moreno sued Lee, the actor's official website run by agent and son-in-law Juan Aneiros, and company The Quaid Project Limited at a civil court in Burgos in northern Spain. The artist says he designed and illustrated the cover for the DVD, which was released in 2004, after being hired by Aneiros with the consent of Lee and the film's producers. On Monday it emerged judge Jose Maria Tapia Lopez had ruled in the illustrator's favour and ordered the defendants to pay the huge sum. The judge also ordered the defendants' assets to be frozen to a value of £640,000 until the money is paid, El Pais reported. None of the defendants appeared in court or had lawyers representing them. ....................................................................................................................................................................... Un juzgado establece que el actor y varios de sus colaboradores utilizaron sin permiso un diseño del dibujante para un DVD: El célebre actor británico Christopher Lee y varios de sus asociados han sido condendados por un juzgado de Burgos a indemnizar con 710.000 euros al ilustrador español Gerardo Moreno por uso indebido de una ilustración y del diseño gráfico en la edición en DVD de la película Jinnah , protagonizada por Lee. En una sentencia preliminar, de marzo de 2009 y que fue publicada en el Boletín Oficial del Estado, el juez José María Tapia López, del juzgado de primera instancia número cuatro y de lo Mercantil de la capital burgalesa, estimaba que los demandados debían indemnizar al ilustrador español. Según la resolución de ejecución de la sentencia (con fecha de octubre de 2009) a la que ha tenido acceso EL PAÍS , esa indemnización asciende a un total de 710.000 euros, más sus correspondientes intereses. Los demandados deberán además publicar en un diario de tirada nacional el contenido de la resolución. |
